Egyptian Qur’ān, ǧuzᶜ N° 10
Complete Arabic manuscript on paper, probably from Egypt, 15th/16th century.
Leaf dimensions: mm. 175 x 132; written space: mm. 120 x 90. The writing is an old-fashioned variant on the nasḫ script, with medium-sized letters and showing some calligraphic solutions more similar to those of the ṯuluṯ style.
The text is composed by 30 pages, reporting the whole of the 10th ǧuzᶜ of the Qur’ān (a ǧuzᶜ corresponds to one-thirtieth of the Koran). The tenth ǧuzˁ begins with the verse 41 of the Surah VIII (al-‘Anfāl: w-aᶜlamū …), ending at the verse 92 of the Surah IX (at-Tawba: … lā yaᶜlamūna). The title is marked in red ink; the leather binding dates back at the same age as the manuscript’s and has been embellished with blind-stamped decorations. The first leaf has suffered from text loss of little importance and has been restored as well; there are some traces of use, but the manuscript is undoubtedly in good conditions.
