Brooke is best remembered for his purchase of the 164 volumes of Italian Renaissance bindings from the Pillone Library “collected at the close of the sixteenth century by Dr. Odorico Pillone of Casteldardo, and ornamented on the sides and edges with paintings, now preserved in an ebony bookcase.”
