Printed on fine paper by the Chiswick Press, half-titles, large double-page folding frontispiece to volume 2, vignette title pages, full-page illustrations, bookplates of George H Brooke to front pastedowns, spotting to preliminary and rear leaves, original brown paper over boards, red ink stain to rear board of volume 1, rubbed, 8vo Limited edition of 100 copies printed for private circulation. Brooke is best remembered for his purchase of the 164 volumes of Italian Renaissance bindings from the Pillone Library “collected at the close of the sixteenth century by Dr. Odorico Pillone of Casteldardo, and ornamented on the sides and edges with paintings, now preserved in an ebony bookcase.”
